Ben Mutzabaugh in his Today in the Sky Column/Blog for USAToday reported the following this morning:
Coyotes force landings to abort at Chicago O’Hare
Two jets arriving at Chicago O’Hare on Sunday had to abort their landings Sunday after coyotes were spotted roaming near the runway. The flights -– one operated by United and the other by American –- were forced to do “go-arounds” before landing safely on their second attempts, FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro tells USA TODAY. The flights each had their landing gear down and were about a quarter-mile from the airport when they were advised of the coyotes. Typically, coyotes are scared off when airport workers drive toward them, says O’Hare spokeswoman Wendy Abrams.
Coyotes can weigh up to 50 pounds and pose significant safety risks to aircraft. In October 2005, a 19-passenger Beechcraft 1900 turboprop hit one of the animals on takeoff from an upstate New York airport. The collision caused the nose gear to collapse and the plane was eventually declared a total loss after if skidded to a stop, according to FAA records. USA TODAY writes that “the FAA said reports of planes hitting wildlife quadrupled from 1,744 in 1990 to 7,136 in 2005 because there are more flights, more wildlife near airports and more reports from pilots. In the same period, 172 people were injured and nine died in such incidents, which resulted in $233 million in losses.”
Does this concern anyone else besides me? I know that most airplanes are bigger than a Beechcraft 190, but the damage hitting something like that while trying to slow down (or take off) would be immense.
Also, who know that Chicago had Coyotes? Never would have guessed that.

All told, average minutes played per game: 6.5 MINUTES!!!!!
No, I’m not freaking kidding!!! Jerome James, the Knicks starter is AVERAGING 6.5 Minutes per game!!!!!!!
David Lee, the only Knick averaging a double-double on the entire team, has averaged only 6.5 minutes per game fewer than the starter…..AND HE HASN’T PLAYED A GAME IN A WEEK!!!!! He is the backup and he is averaging 31 minutes per game.
Would someone please tell me how Isaiah Thomas still has a job?!!?!?
Hands down, best quotes of the night, “I would like to wish my mother a Happy Birthday in November.” and “I like Puppies…”
Last week, I was 1 for 2… had I previewed the girls competition prior to the selection show, I would have been 2 for 4.
Here are my bottom 4 from the guys tonight:

AJ Tabaldo
Brandon Rogers
and my prediction for who goes home is right after the more bottom…..
I no longer have Hips Don’t Lie stuck in my head. That is all.
A long time ago, in a blog very close to here, I’d been hoping to wax poetically about a show called “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” I had been hoping to be able to talk about my love for this show like I did about a little show called “The West Wing”. I had been hoping to talk about its soaring ratings and even better storylines. Well, as we probably all know by now — unless you’ve been living under a rock the size of Alaska — that Studio 60 isn’t doing well. In fact, it has only slightly higher ratings than the Office did during its first season. But back then, NBC had backbone, and took its chances on shows that had low ratings, but had potential. Now, they just shove it aside for shows that other people won’t like either.
Of course, I am talking about The Black Donnellys. Now, for people who don’t know what this show is about, its basically a show by Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco (both from Crash), about 4 brothers who are involved in the mob in NYC…oh yeah, and they will fight off the army if they have to for one of their siblings.
Now, don’t get me wrong, 10 million viewers at the beginning of the show is good, 6 million at the end of the FIRST HOUR…not so much. But what’s worse is this, how many FREAKING SHOWS does NBC have to put up against CSI:Miami, only to get smacked down, for them to realize that they’re just not going to get a great showing viewership-wise?!?! I mean, how long is it going to take the ad-wizards running GE’s entertainment brand?!?!
There were 17.4 MILLION PEOPLE watching CSI: Miami last night. That’s more than 2x as many as were watching Studio 60, nearly 2.5x as many. Don’t get me wrong, the show is floundering. Studio 60 has more problems than the Knicks right now, but how many dramas does NBC have to go through before they get it. The Black Donnellys might end up being really good. I won’t know because I’m not going to watch it, but how many 1-hour dramas has NBC killed ahead of its time? And how many reality TV shows/game shows do they have to shove down our throats before people write them off like they did Fox on all nights before 24, American Idol, Prison Break and House reinvigorated the network? Now its like, what, the number 2 rated network?
I’m just saying. NBC, I hate you. Again.
How is Michael Douglas’ speech from the American President not on here? I mean seriously! How is that even possible!
Listen to this and tell me I’m wrong:
Who would be dumb enough to bring $81,000 of their own money and just leave it on the stage at a strip club? Pac man Jones, that’s who!
Police seized $81,020 in cash belonging to Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones, money they said sparked a melee and a triple shooting at a strip club over the weekend, court documents show.
Jones was showering more than 40 strippers onstage at Minxx Gentlemen’s Club & Lounge early Monday with the cash “intended as a visual effect,” according to a search warrant. But a scuffle broke out when the Houston promoter who hired the strippers told them to pick the money up.
Sure it did!! Are people this dumb?! Like no one saw this one coming?!
I would like to nominate all of these people for a GROUP DoTW
I did preview my selection for the top 12 men yesterday.
I do not have a preview for the women and probably won’t have one before tonight’s show because of a monumental disagreement of biblical proportions with my very, very beautiful wife last night.
If I get home early, I will try and watched the TiVo’d broadcast and update my selections… If not, my predictions for the guys stand and I will be back next week with a preview for the top 10 guys and girls.
Have a great day!
Okay, seriously, its been like 2 weeks, and I still have “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira (Shakira) in my head. I’m serious. I woke up with it playing in my mind this morning. And the song that was on the radio when I got up was “Sail Away” by Styx!!! This is getting ridiculous.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!
The auditions are over and the final 24 got started tonight.
I am back to make our Riddle Me This, Jishman predictions. Unlike last year, very little commentary. This year just the predictions.
The top 12 men sang and here is your bottom 4:
Nicholas Pedro
Paul Kim
Sanjaya Malakar

Who do I think will be eliminated on Thursday? (click the more button)
So, all of our faithful readers know about my enjoyment of cooking, but after reading this opinion piece by Anthony Bourdain (yes, he of “Kitchen Confidential”), I started thinking, is it possible that the Food Network has outgrown its roots as a haven for women looking for newer ways to prepare meals or food-historians looking for new information on the things we eat? I think what really got me was when he started talking about all the male-skewing shows: (more…)
Need new shoes? Check out www.endless.com! During February, they are doing overnight shipping for negative $5. Yes, that’s right, they are taking $5 off every pair of shoes and shipping overnight free. It’s owned by Amazon, so it’s probably legit. They also have no sales tax and free return shipping. I just order two pairs of stride rites for Joe (separately, to get the $5 off each pair), and they were on sale too, can’t beat that.
Last month, I posted my initial projection for the 2007 NFL Draft.
Now that the Senior Bowl has passed and team needs are developing, it is time to revise the Mock Draft from last month and focus on how things are starting to develop. (You will hear me talk about the Board in draft explanations, to view my Top 25 Big Board, click here)
So, Let’s get started:
MOCK II: 2007 NFL Draft
1. Oakland Raiders: JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
No change here…
2. Detroit Lions: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
No change here… (Since Jishman is pointing things out this week, I would like to point out that I called this pick before Kiper and McShay over at ESPN who obviously read RMTJ and agree with me [just kidding] because they both are listening to me on this pick)…
(Until the coin flip, I choose Tampa Bay because “chucky” scares me)
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
No change here…
4. Cleveland Browns: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
Peterson or Quinn? Unless Quinn has an excellent combine, Cleveland may focus on their running back situation first and focus on their quarterback next year or in later rounds.
5. Arizona Cardinals: Alan Branch, DT, Michigan
No change here…
It has been a while since I have updated the top 25 on my Big Board for the April draft.
Because of a family situation, it has taken me a long time to sit down and process the Senior Bowl information. As we get closer to the combine, the NFL team needs are materializing (ie: like San Diego needs a coach…hahaha…had to do it)…..
My next mock draft should be out soon….. here is the current Big Board:
