So, I’m as big a sports fan as the next guy, but is it wrong that I see something wrong with college signing day being broadcast on ESPNU? I certainly have been the same guy who said “well this player has accomplished all he can in college so of course he should come out early”, but at the same time, I also say “but he won’t have graduated”. Events like this highlight how much focus we put on the sports piece of the “college experience,” and I wonder just how much of an impact this will have on or rather, when the pendulum will swing back the other direction.
Just a thought…

This is what I had to say about the First Patriots and Giants game back in week 17. (click here to read the post about the officiating)
It appears that Roger Goodell and the NFL have read my letter numerous times (thanks for being an RMTJ reader, Roger) because the NFL has announced the referee for the Patriots and the Giants Super Bowl this week….(click here to see who)
Carey, in his 18th season as an NFL official, was the alternate referee in the 2002 Super Bowl between the Patriots and the St. Louis Rams. He also was the referee of the first game between the Giants and Patriots, the season finale won by the Patriots 38-35 to wrap up their unbeaten regular season.
Yes, you guessed it…. the guy who called one of the most atrocious games of the season during the first game is now the referee of the Super Bowl: (from my first post above)
The Patriots scored 21 points of their 38 on fake/phantom calls. FAKE CALLS!!! So Roger, Kudos… you gave the country a free game that gave the NFL records. FAKE Records…
I wonder how many fake calls the Patriots and the NFL will manufacture this weekend in order to hand the Patriots the win?!
Looks like the Giants will be playing the Patriots and the officials again for the second time this season….. Thanks, Roger! Looks like the NFL is at it again….

My parents forwarded this to me, I cannot attribute it because the author did not sign it…. therefore, I post it here as anonymous….. very funny, though.
A first-grade teacher, Ms. Brooks, was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, “Harry, what’s your Problem?”
Harry answered, “I’m too smart for the 1st grade. My sister Is in the 3rd grade and I’m smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 3rd grade too!”
Ms. Brooks had had enough. She took Harry to the principal’s office. While Harry waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told Ms. Brooks he would give the boy a test. If he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the 1st grade and behave. She agreed.

Legos are 50 years old today. As a child who loved playing with them as kids, let me say, “Parents, buy them for your kids.”

Unless you want women’s tennis to be compared to porn, turn off the sound when you’re showing highlights. Maria Sharapova shrieking and grunting while she’s hitting tennis balls do not engender any desires to watch her matches. It is annoying.
Sincerely,
A Bored Non-Fan

I have been having a running debate with acouple of my friends who happen to be New England Patriots fans about the Best Quarterback ever. I have said repeatedly that Tom Brady is not the best quarterback ever and that if I were to start a team today and I could choose any quarterback (in their prime) in the history of the NFL, I would start my team with either Unitas, Starr or Montana.
I have about five or six other QBs I would choose before I selected Brady to start my franchise…
My friends are handicapped in their debating skills because they suffer from “Boston Mentality” which I will explain in further detail later this week… but looking at everyone, New England fans and fans of other football franchises:
If you could start a franchise with any NFL QB in the history of the league, which QB would you choose?

The great thing about the first mock draft of the year is that you can take some extreme liberties with players who may fly up th Big Boards of many teams over the next few months. The Combine, team interviews, free agency, team needs changing due to lost or added players, trades, etc. will all have an impact on the NFL Draft in April.
BUT, for now, just staring at the basic needs list… the players who are going to be available… and some other factors…. I had a lot of fun with this initial Mock draft, I took a lot of creative license to look at players who may rise over the next few months BUT who may also never realize their potential and fall drastically…. ah, the fun of the NFL Draft process. I Love it.
With that said, I give you my initial Mock Draft:
Trade Alert: The Dallas Cowboys will trade both first round picks (plus some) for the First overall pick of the Miami Dolphins
1) Dallas Cowboys (From Miami) — Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
I know that wisdom emphatically states that the hardest pick to move is the first pick in the NFL draft BUT we have run into a perfect storm of circumstances. The Dallas Cowboys will not resign Julius Jones this year and they are a RB away from being a complete, Super Bowl team. The Miami Dolphins need everything and have a good relationship with the Cowboys Owner and front office… Darren McFadden is that final piece of the puzzle. Marion Barber will not be an every down back and with McFadden and Barber in the backfield, Dallas (I hate to say it) might become the best team in the NFC for the next five to six years.

There are three current openings in the NFL: the Washington Redskins, Baltimore Ravens and the Atlanta Falcons. On one hand, it is surprising that some of these searches have taken longer than expected (the Atlanta Falcons have taken nearly 7 weeks). On the other hand, its good at least that they are taking the necessary time to pick the appropriate candidate. Thinking about my previous post on the subject and with new information, I have some new thoughts:

This is a shandah! I don’t know what to say. This was almost as sad for me as when the Queen of Nice retired.

I love my wife very much, I even dedicated my site to her….
BUT, this Sunday at 6:30pm, our house will become divided because her favorite team (The Green Bay Packers) will be playing my favorite team (The NY Giants) in the NFC Championship game.
Fortunately, after a three hour contest of taunts, we will both come together and support whichever NFC team goes to the Super Bowl. So I guess the old adage that “A House divided can’t stand” may not be 100% accurate…. but check back on Monday and I’ll let you know…
Go Giants!!!!

Looks like the studios have no interest in solving the strike. Oh well, I’ll say it now, I have no problem if every single one of these studios goes under. You can quote me on this.
I recognize that just a few months ago I said that both sides are at fault, and I still genuinely believe that, but here is where I’m going to revise my previous statement. The production houses are far more at fault right now. They charge more than ever now, and they give a lower proportional amount to those who are creating the content. Moreover, they have more avenues to distribute the material than they had just 5 years ago and certainly more than the last time they renegotiated this contract. Internet, rentals, cell phones, video on demand, live broadcasts, syndication, have I missed anything? I don’t think that the writers are without blame here, but I definitely do think they’re getting jobbed. Its time to settle this and move on, especially so I don’t have to see more episodes of “Pimp my Trike,” “My dad is better than your dad” and “1 versus 100″ (which, by the by, is officially on my list of the top 10 worst programs on television).

Roger Goodell must be angry… The refs did everything they could (including stealing seven points from the Chargers at the end of the first half) and yet, the beloved Colts still lost….
Maybe the refs will start calling games fairly…. or maybe the Chargers can repeat this magic next Sunday in spite of the refs…
Starkist used to ahve a tag line to their Commercials, “Sorry, Charlie.”
Well, I say, “Sorry, Roger!”
